WEEK 1 (Read the Bible in 8 Weeks)

PLEASE BEGIN WITH PRAYER! asking God to 1) prepare the heart so that every aspect of ourselves could be fully focused on His Word, 2) to illuminate the truth through the Holy Spirit, and 3) to be changed for good (!) by the Word of God.

WEEK 1 (Genesis 1 - Numbers 16)

DAY 1
Genesis 1 to Genesis 36.
From Creation to Jacob meeting Esau settling in Shechem and the generations of Esau.

DAY 2
Genesis 37 to Exodus 10
From Joseph being sold to the Ishmaelites, to God preparing Moses for the last plague.

DAY 3
Exodus 11 to Exodus 36
From the institution of the passover and final plague to the construction of the tent of meeting.

DAY 4
Exodus 37 to Leviticus 16
From the building of the ark and furnishings of the tabernacle to the Day of At0nement.

DAY 5
Leviticus 17 to Numbers 16
From instructions of making sacrifice at the entrance of the tent of meeting to Korah’s rebellion

Read the Bible in 8 weeks (40 work days)!

I have found a blog to help us do an entire reading of the Scriptures in 9 weeks (end of 2011).

The guy who did it broke it down this way:
"Beginning next week I will be starting an 8 week trek through my favorite audio Bible, Max McLean’s Listener’s Bible in ESV.  There are 1186 chapters, and McLean’s Bible audio version is almost 75 hours long. Over 8 weeks this breaks down to roughly 9 hours 20 minutes per week, 1 hour 50 minutes per day, which means 55 minutes each commute. That easily fits into my 1 hour 15 minute commute.
I project that my progress will look something like this:
Week 1: Genesis – Numbers
Week 2: Deuteronomy – 2 Samuel
Week 3: 1 Kings – Nehemiah
Week 4: Esther – Psalms
Week 5: Proverbs – Isaiah
Week 6: Jeremiah – Hosea
Week 7: Joel – Luke
Week 8: John – Revelation
There’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in the spoken word for an intense duration. The picture of God’s Word that emerges is priceless. I encourage you to join me on this trek."

From my experience, reading it with an audio Bible helps stay on track (speed) and focused.
If you would like a downloaded mp3 files of the NIV please let me know and I can give them to you.
Or there are several ways you can do this through online resources (i.e. Podcasts, online streaming, online downloads).
This time I am going to slowdown and read at a normal pace (versus reading it with the audio Bible sped up 3 times! to do it in 4 days) for 8 weeks. And I will post a blog every week to keep us on track (I will mainly use the format from the blog I shared earlier).

The Disciples Church (Korean Ministry and English Ministry (ANM) together is finishing the year 2011 with a high level of dedication! All members will join hands together in the "1-1-1 Dedication Movement" - which is asking all members to lead 1 (One) person to Christ, do 1 (One) complete reading of the Scriptures, and giving 1 (One) % of the Education/Dream Hall budget of $100,000 all by the end of this year.

"Blessings" by Laura Story ... a good song to meditate on this fall

Laura Story is one of my favorite Christian artists. I like her works for solid messages & beautiful music.
Her song "Blessings" is on the blessings of God... how sometimes they may not seem like a blessing.

The Disciples Church & ANM Fall 2011 Picnic (10/9)

Last Sunday (Oct. 9), our entire church including the Korean Ministry (KM) went to Maumelle Park for Fall outdoor worship.
We had a great time worshiping the Lord in His majestic, magnificent creation!
We had a great turn ou:. We had the Nams, the Koos, the Parks, the Lees, the Nguyens, Tom Chwe, James Roh, Heeyoung & Sarah Nixon, Abe & Stephanie & Joe.
The entire church also celebrated with us our 3rd Anniversary of the English Ministry (DWMC-ANM).

Then we had some amazing Korean BBQ for lunch & Basket Ball & sports.
I'll try to state this as humbly as I can: ANM dominated every basket ball game played. (Thanks to our new friend Joe).

September Sarang Bang Fellowship!

All Nations Ministry had the first Sarang Bang Fellowship with the new name @ Pastor James' place.
We had David & Jenny Lee (plus Noah & Olivia), David & Hyun Ah Nguyen (plus Brandon & Eric), Tom Chwe, Mira O'Gorman (plus Magnus), and of course James & Jenny (plus Joelle). We had a full house even with the Koo's & the Park's out of town. Perhaps because of the size of the house :)

We had a good dinner with lots of dessert everyone brought! :)
And we ended the dinner fellowship by sharing personal expectations for the English Ministry "All Nations Ministry".
It was great to hear personal stories and hopes for the new ministry.
Some of the expectations were: the presence of the A.N.M. to be recognized more by the rest of the church (Korean Ministry), seeing initiatives and commitments from the ANM members, and growth of personal knowledge of God.
We pray that A.N.M. will continue to grow in the gospel and achieve more than our expectations by relying on the Lord, who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20). Glory to God!

All Nations Ministry Launching October Series!

Greeting letter from Pastor James Nam.

Dear family members of English Ministry of The Disciples Church,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus, who binds us all with His endless love!

HELLO| My name is James Nam and I will be leading the EM group of The Disciples Church as a new EM Pastor. We are very excited to be here with you!

TRANSITION| We moved to Little Rock end of last month from Columbia, SC, and it’s been a good and busy month getting situated and adjusted. Transitions are never easy. But thus far, we have been covered with so much love and welcome from the church (especially EM!), and it’s been amazing. God has never failed to prove His faithfulness. We are very grateful to be here and we give God glory for His divine sovereignty, bringing us together under the name of “EM”.  

BACKGROUND| I spent my early childhood in Korea (and India for about 3 years), but spent my middle school and high school years in the Philippines as a missionary kid. I came to the States for college (Calvin College Grand Rapids, MI – B.S. in Business Mngt & Japanese minor) and grad school (Bob Jones Univ Greenville, SC - M. Div) and stayed ever since.
FAMILY| I am blessed to be married to my wife Jenny, for almost three years and God has blessed us with a daughter Joelle Yunha. She is 20 months old, and is a handful :)

LOVE| As much as we are looking forward to what God has in store for us (EM), it is my sincere prayer that you will also expect great things from the Lord as we serve His Kingdom and His church together!
We can’t wait to meet all of you at the church! Please help us to get comfortable in Little Rock as well :) I’d love to sit down and get to know you over coffee or lunch.
